80% of maternal deaths are preventable. How NY plans to save more mothers' lives

Following maternal death spikes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, in New York, Black women remain five times more likely to die of pregnancy-related causes than white women. The state’s push to improve maternal health and combat maternal inequality is known as the maternal-mortality review board. The board is leading government budget and medical reforms with recommendations for legislators and doctors.
