Screening for PTSD during pregnancy: a missed opportunity

Prenatal posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is often overlooked in obstetric care because screening is rare. Pregnant patients with PTSD are at higher risk for pregnancy complications and adverse birth outcomes, which may later negatively impact infant health. PTSD symptoms rarely receive the same attention as symptoms of postpartum depression, leaving a significant number of pregnant individuals–11.1% of participants screened positive for PTSD alone–without adequate treatment.
