Effect of l-Arginine on Nitric Oxide Levels in Intrauterine Growth Restriction and its Correlation with Fetal Outcome

Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) affects 3–10% of all pregnancies, causing a significant increase in mortality in the perinatal period. Arginine, a nutritionally essential amino acid for the fetus, is a precursor for the synthesis of nitric oxide–a critical molecule for maintaining placental blood flow. As such, arginine plays a crucial role in fetal nutrition and oxygenation and reduces the risk of IUGR, increasing birth weight and decreasing neonatal mortality.
